Ross Evolution Fly Reels : FishUSA

The Ross Evolution LT Reels are a lightweight, super-dependable reel. The Evolution LT is constructed of quality aluminum, machined to exacting tolerances, and anodized for a tough finish that will last a lifetime. At home in either freshwater or saltwater, the Evolution LT features a smooth, conical drag unit that is butter-smooth and maintenance free. In addition, the Evolution LT has a triple-redundant drag mechanism that means the drag engages instantly when your fish heads for cover without any "slop" in the reel. It also means that, in the unlikely event one of the drag pawls malfunctioned, you still have three more to go.

Testing
In addition to saltwater testing in Costa Rica and Florida, I tried to wrangle as many huge musky and northern pike as my home state of Colorado offers. I also set up a series of cones to measure distance and accuracy of casts at a local park. (As large fish are frequently on the move, being able to place a fly precisely before the fish swims out of range can be critical to success.) At the park I performed a series of casts with three different setups on each rod. First, I paired the rods with their respective manufacturers’ reels. Then, to adjust for the differences in fly line, I cast each with the Sage 3810CF reel () to evaluate distance. Finally, I used the Ross Evolution reel () to evaluate accuracy.(All weights supplied by manufacturer.)

olin McKeown, host of , was shooting an episode in Algoma Country in Northern Ontario when he hooked a record smallmouth bass this September. The massive fish was successfully landed and measured in at 22” long with a girth of over 15” – the weight was approximated at nearly seven pounds! The bass was caught on 10 lb tippet using an Orvis Helios six weight rod matched to a Ross Evolution reel. The fish is a new Ontario record on a fly through the recently launched . The fish was caught at Birch Lake Resort.
